Architectural accessibility

The Henryk Niewodniczański Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences is located at 152 Radzikowskiego Street, 31-342 Krakow.

The premises of IFJ PAN can be accessed by two entrance gates. Because of the specificity of the object, access to its premises is restricted: visitors who are not employees may require a pass. Both the driveway secured by barriers and the pedestrian entrance require an access card; the card can be collected together with a pass from the security personnel of one of the guardhouses located at each gate.

The main entrance gate can be accessed from the south side, from Radzikowskiego Street. The guardhouse near the gate operates 24 hours a day, including every weekday and holidays.

The north gate can be accessed from Mięsowicza Street intersecting Sosnowiecka Street. The gate is open on working days from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On the premises of the Institute there are parking spaces designated for people with disabilities. The guardhouse personnel may assist visitors in accessing the buildings. Assistance is also provided to the disabled visitors on wheelchairs wishing to visit the Institute. People using wheelchairs may be assisted by guards and can reach the desired place following a designated path.

Wheelchair users may access the main complex by a ramp located at building 0 from the north side. The building is part of the main complex of buildings that includes: building 0, 2, 3 and 5, as well as an administrative building number 4. A map illustrating the location of the buildings, internal roads and parking lots may be collected at the guardhouses.

Inside the main building, there are two elevators – a cargo-passenger one located in building 0 and a passenger one in building 4. These elevators, along with the installed platform, enable overcoming the level difference between buildings 5 and 4 and provide easy access to all floors of the buildings within the main complex. In the near future, actions are planned to replace the ramp at building 0 with a vertical platform. There are also plans to designate additional parking spaces for people with disabilities, as well as to install a system for calling the guard for assistance for the driver of a disabled vehicle.

Inside the main complex there are two toilets adapted to the needs of disabled people that can be accessed from the ground floor level.

Apart from the main complex, the following buildings can be found on the premises of IFJ PAN:

  • The building of Cyclotron Centre Bronowice, which can be accessed without problems directly by the main entrance from the south side. Additionally, there is a special ramp providing access from the west side. The building is equipped with a lift. The part of the building dedicated to patients has a wheelchair ramp to make up for level differences. The building is also equipped with a toiled adapted to the needs of disabled people and a designated parking space from the south side. Because of the specificity of the object, access to most of its areas is restricted and requires a clearance.
  • Building 26, which can be easily accessed by the main entrance from the west side as there are no level differences. The building houses a lift and toilets for people with disabilities located on each floor.
  • Building 25 - can be accessed from the north side with no level differences, but the entrance leads through the area of the Division of Scientific Equipment and Infrastructure Construction (DAI) and requires prior consent and assistance from IFJ PAN. Access to the other floors of the building is limited and the building does not have a lift.
  • Building 18 - can be accessed from the north side with no level differences. This is a single-floor building not equipped with a toilet adapted to the needs of disabled people.
  • Building 1 - access to the building is facilitated through the main entrance using a platform lift and a cargo-passenger elevator, as well as from the northern side through a ramp with access to the ICP-MS laboratory and a segmented gate with an adapted wicket (requires assistance from another person). Due to the nature of the facility, architectural barriers, and varying levels, access to a small portion of its areas is limited and requires prior arrangement or is impossible. The building is equipped with one accessible restroom on the ground level near the segmented gate.
  • Buildings 6 and 14 are single-floor objects that can be accessed directly from the surrounding area, but access is restricted as they are entirely laboratory and research units.
